Fastest I ever drove was in a 1968 Chevelle convertible with a 327 out of an SS Camaro. I buried the speeo at 120 and kept going. I don't know how fast exactly but it was probably 130 or so. thank goodness I had plenty of room to stop with NO power brakes and drums front and rear! Damn, I was a dumb kid!! LOL!

I remember my green 1993 Explorer XLT. The top speed on the odometer was 80mph I think. I got that suv new and kept it for about 3 years until I had an accident in it and it was totaled.

Yes, well, fortunetly for the 99.9% of americans who are glad we live in a free country and respect that there are people that enjoy the antique vehicle hobbies in our pursuit of happiness, that is not the case.
I'm sure however that the glorious politicians in the People's Republic of Kalifornia are proposing legislature to do that very thing. Gotta protect the people from themselves and the state knows best, afterall.

Sorry, but seriously this pisses me off. You people who are driving like that in the US (notice I'm not including the autobahn) are risking your own lives, which is fine with me--your choice. But you're also risking the lives of others on the road. There is NO WAY you can adequately see what is in front of you at that speed. You are irresponsible and your licenses should be revoked.
Find your thrills somewhere else--not somewhere you're affecting others and could possibly take the lives of others.

Don't let it bother you, no one said they were swerving in and out of traffic or running people off the road, it's all part of the real world, I see people going well over 100mph on the freeway all the time, it's really no big deal.

Well, I respectfully disagree. If someone is going along the Cross Bronx Expressway, which is one of the roads mentioned I think, at 100+ miles per hour, and there is a car ahead of them going 55, there is no way they could avoid that car coming around a corner. You would need a very long stopping distance, and roads (outside perhaps of Nevada and a few other spots) do not have the visibility. It is extremely dangerous and it is a very big deal. It's not to you, because you haven't killed anyone--yet. But it is to anyone who has been killed by someone speeding like that.
You know that the speed limit was brought down from 70 to 55 during the 70s on the East coast b/c there was a gas crisis going on and 55 uses far less gas than does going 70. What they found, however, was that highway deaths went down SUBSTANTIALLY by lowering the speed limit, so even after the gas crisis was over, they kept the speed limit at 55 (some places 65). The death rate is far higher even than it was at 70 when someone is driving along at 55, expecting others to be driving along at 55, and someone comes flying up at 100+.
If you "feel the need for speed" spend the money and go to a track where you will be safer and, more importantly, those sharing the road with you, who are not looking for some kind of rush, will also be safer.
