Default Higher Gas Prices = Better Car Deals?

Has anyone noticed how anxious people are to sell their used cars? I go to car dealerships now and I see about five or six sales people standing around talking -- no customers. Maybe now is a good time to get a really good deal on a car. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Greenie,

You are correct that this is a buyer's market. This extends well beyond the car market, but that's beyond the scope of your question. Consumers are pretty tight with their money for a lot of reasons, but the only thing that matters to you is the competitive shopping environment that is created because of this.

The best piece of advice that I can give you is to figure out exactly what you want and then shop around. Once you look at enough cars, you'll recognize a great deal when you find it. The other important piece of advice is NOT to fall in love with one specific car. Remember that there are many, many other cars just like the one you see in front of you. If you don't get the deal that you want, walk away. This is the biggest mistake that most people make...they get emotional during the buying process.

And Greenie, remember to focus on only vehicles that will give you good gas mileage. The biggest discounts will be on the gas guzzlers.
