What up Automotive forum?
First, thanks for your input my making my purchasing decision of a 2008 Accord last year.
Now, a little update. I've pretty much decided to take a break from car ownership and decided to sell the Accord to save a little money since most of my personal hotspots can be accessed by public transportation and I also have Zipcar that is close to me.
Now I'm trying to get into grad school and assuming I'm in a position after I get finished to buy another car (and possibly living where I need a car) I'm in love with the Chevy Camaro from 2010 and up. I drove one for a week last summer and LOVED it. However it costs more than I want to pay right now. I also searched for Ford Mustangs and they are a lot cheaper. Is that for the reason?
So since we are a little far off from decision time, would you pay the extra money for the Camaro or would you be satisified with a Mustang if it meant more money in your pocket?

Depends... are you looking for a performance model or a base model?

One thing to take into consideration is that the 2011 Mustang is a significantly updated car compared to older models. Between a 2011 and 2008, the 2011 has significantly updated styling, a better interior and an extra 100 ponies with the V8 engine. I’d avoid the 2010’s as they have the newly updated styling but the old drive train.

I'd be looking for more a base model. My preference would be for a V6 engine. Living in the DC area I'd never have the opportunity to use all the horses of a V8.

Same deal with the V6. The 2011's have a 300 horse V6 which is pretty stout while the 2008's have a horrible horrible six.

If I had to choose between a V6 Mustang or Camaro I would go with a newer Mustang.
A mustang will be easier to live with 6 (300 HP even with the 6!)and have a better resale value. Just don't rice it out.

You see my screenname and know I have owned 5 camaros...
I would really look at the mustang. That being said. I would go for the 5.0 if comparung against the camaro.
Now the older mustangs with 300ish hp. I would love one as a daily driver. I assume you can pic one up in good shhape and ok miles for low teens by now.

Unfortunately there were no Camaros between 2003 and 2010. However, there was the Pontiac GTO. You can get these for a lot less money than 2010 Camaros, with very similar performance. It's no Camaro, but at least GM made something to fill the pony car gap for these years.

Based on my behind the wheel experience, I think the Mustang is a more fun and satisfying drive. That is, of course, just a personal preference. The Camaro to me feels much bigger and heavier, and has a lot more blind spots and worse sidelines due to short windows (dictated by the styling). I love the looks.
I do not think you can really go wrong with either.
