Thats it? I thought hybrid did better than that. You should ask for your money back.

1976-1984 VW Diesel Rabbit. 50 mpg, no OPEC required (NO gas ). PLENTY of interior space, I paid $35 for my last one. $15k will buy 400+ Rabbits, enough to share a few with your friends. VERY eco-friendly (bio-D or Waste cooking oil) and good use of limited resources
Not so much on the eco friendly. Kind of like electric cars in a coal state except moreso.

That myth was debunked long ago.

EV MPG equivalent in each state based on electricity production. Even in the worst coal state (Colorado) an EV is far cleaner and more efficient than its gasoline cousin.

Some more info for you to chew on.

Ahh , maybe not. 2000-2003 Jetta, or Golf TDI. Can be had for $5k -10k depending on mileage and will get 46-50+ mpg (depending on driving style) They are fun to drive and the aftermarket makes tons of items if you like to tinker.

It's just that there aren't any super-economic cars out there that have a lot of appeal to me, so if I were to find myself needing a 40 mpg commuter vehicle I'd just go with the cheapest thing I could find which would probably be something like a Metro.

And they're not as bad as people make them out to be, I drove one as a delivery vehicle for a couple of years and actually kind of like it.

Yes, but ues looking at around 15k so Id imagine hes looking for low maintenace. Those years Jetta TDIs are great, but certainly not low maintenance, unless you dont drive much. I know, I have one.

I like how you says it's debunked and then point to a source that proves that it's correct. Just from GHGs, you're for better off getting a fuel efficient gas car than an electric or PHEV in, say, Dearborn where 80% of the power is generated by coal

Much better off with an electric car where I live, however. Only 8% of our power is coal. Most of it comes from NG.

Your kidding right ? What sort of extra maintenance does it need ? I've only got 187k miles on mine but other than brakes, clutch, A/C compressor, GP harness, a timing belt , and an oil change every 10k and fuel filter every other oil change it's been trouble free. Sure you just can't mind having that CEL light on 90% of the time..

Really...?? A an a/c compressor, gp harness, and a clutch are acceptable to you at under 200k??? Same as you, plus quite a few more items, but minus the clutch,.which should get at least 500k out of if used properly. A lil over 250k, and yes, the constant CEL is unacceptable as well. Ive never put so much into my other domestic OR import brands that I have/do own and I treat all my vehicles the same.

All of which is waaaay more $$$$ and maintenance Ive seen with similarly mileaged Prius, the suggestion I offered up to the OP.
