As the owner of an E36 BMW M3, I recommend driving both cars, and making the decision from personal experience.

That said, I personally prefer the aesthetics of the previous-generation IS350.

As I mentioned earlier, photos don't do this new one any justice. It looks much nicer in person..

I don't think it looks any better in person. The styling is hideous and all they had to do to fix it was include a normal set of headlights that extend down to the LED angles. I know Lexus has long been criticized for having dull styling but tacking on awkwardly shaped parts is not the way to fix it. There is a middle ground between dull and ugly which Lexus seems to have stepped way over.

When you have to say "Hey guys, I know it looks ugly in photos but wait til you see it in the flesh!", you know someone made a fatal syling error.

The rear and side profile are better in the new one.

Front I agree the previous one looked quite understated & elegant.

I'd wait for the mid life refresh for Lexus to improve and probably 'tone' it down.

The previous IS350/250 looked very nice in photos and also in person!

you may think the old one ^^ looks better..

But it really doesn't. Once you see the new one, you'll like it. Especially in black.

BMW is much, much nicer. It growls; the Lexus kind of hisses, but the Lexus would be better for stock sound, I think.
