As you might imagine, this is related to my accident thread.

What are some good dash cams that you would recommend that would be able to record everything in a driving day? Do you have any models you use yourself? How well do they work? What's their track record? Have they ever actually really helped you in a sketchy situation where you needed them?

Thank you in advance!

I hear good things about GoPro's too. They have a 24 hour loop mode I believe.

I use a cheap one that works pretty good. I think it's from Dawson. Not as clear as GoPro, but for $40, does the job. Look on Amazon.com. They have a lot of them.

I wonder if your own dashcam could be used against you? If there was an accident could the police confiscate it as evidence?

It may be, if you're stupid enough to let it fall into the hands of the cops with incriminating evidence on it.

This is what I use. Veho VCC-005-MUVI-HD10 Muvi HD 1080p

Its fairly small, not super expensive, HD, wide angle lens(super beneficial for dash cams), has a loop mode, continuous recording that can break it up into 15 minute blocks, file protect settings to not overwrite a 15 min block you want saved, and my favorite, sound activation. My power locks automatically wakes it up and starts recording. It stops 2 minutes after it stops hearing sounds.

Many cameras out there wont charge and record at the same time. This one does with a Garmin GPS 12v charger. That was important to me.

This shows cloudy and night shots. Night time is always going to be a challenge. It was also shot in 720, not 1080. 1080 is an option, but I had a small memory card in it at the time.

Today's Stupid Drivers and Construction Crew - YouTube

Ive been using this camera for a few years now, its held up to the very hot summers here in Georgia and still works like a champ.

There was one time when a guy nearly ran me off the road and started to brake check and drive like crap. I passed him, cop saw that, pulled me over. He was going to get me for speeding until I showed him the video, he let me go.

Just a few weeks ago, a lady pulled right out in front of me. Slowed to less then 5 mph to try to jump to the fast lane, got mad at me because I was right on her tail, but that kinda happens when you pull in front of people. She then followed me once I passed. She actually called the cops on me. She lied, told the cops I was following her and she was scared. Cops eventually pull me over. Again, showed the video, proved that I passed her legally, no horn blowing or nothing. Just a perfectly legal pass. Showed me making my uturn, then pulling into a parking lot. Cop's had to deal with her for the false report. It proved that I was not following her like she said.

Also a month or so ago, 55mph two lane road. Had a couple slow cars, made a legal pass. Cop turns around and pulls me over. He said that I was speeding and passed on a double yellow. I didnt have to show him the video, but I pointed it out that the speed zone is actually 55 and it was a single broken yellow that I passed on and the video will show that.

I got a warning.

I rarely run without it.

Yup, thats the one. I had to get creative and make my own suction cup mount for the windshield, but some people will just find a place to clip it on.
