Any ideas why someone would fill up the whole lighter socket with pennies in the first place?
No way they all accidentally fell in there.

Kids.

Weirdly enough, when all of ours grew up & left home we had a LOT less things like this happening at our place...

There is no such thing as high voltage in a car unless you are talking about the signal to a spark plug. Every car in modern history is 12V. The fuse on most lighter sockets is 15A.

If you touched both terminals of a car battery you will not die.

Hofdano. That's good to know. I was going by the owners book. In general don't mess with electricity or your new car if you don't know what you're doing. Which is why I appreciate everyone's help.

Very true. But we know this isn't a hybrid.

I would vacuum the pennies out. Then check the fuses.

How exactly would pennies fit in a 110v outlet?

How old is the car? If there are any Indian Heads in there, take them to a coin dealer.
