Had a 2000 Dodge Neon with 235,000 miles in 13 years of ownership. Donated it to my local school system's Vo-Tech center this past summer. Have a 1994 Ford Ranger with 110K miles and have had it 12 years so far. Also have a GoMango 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona with 78K and have had it over 7 years. We bought a 2013 Ford Focus this past spring. It has 8K on it now. We tend to keep them as long as they do not give us any expensive trouble.

My longest car I owned was a 1975 Mercedes Convertible I bought in 1991 for $7,500 From 1995 on I had it registered as a classic car and paid $49 a year car insurance. Between 1991 and 2012 I spent 8k on repairs and maint, so total investment was $16,500.

Hurricane Sandy destroyed car and I got an 18K payout. So I got paid $1,650 to own car 21 years.

Meanwhile folks who lease will still tell you it is cheaper.

Cheapest is my friend had a limo business and he buys classic cars for drivers for weddings and he is allowed to depreciate the vehicle, lets say a 1949 white caddie that is actually appreciating each year. Now that is crazy

I have a 2002 GM SUV that 1.5 years ago had the rear end blow out requiring a $2500 repair. Thinking it was the death rattle, a ordered a new truck and hoped the old one would last until it arrived. Not only has it lasted, it's actually running pretty well at 213K miles, to the point that I'm still using it for my daily driver and letting the new car sit as a garage queen.

First major repair over $1K, other than regular maintenance and normal replacement parts and it'll be gone. I bought it new and have gotten my money's worth from it.

My car is an 02 with only 49k miles on it. There is no rust and the interior looks great. I'm teaching a 17 year old how to drive my manual trans. I was hoping to keep it another ten years but it has to survive my teenage student. Pray for me.

I have a 1998 Toyota Corolla I bought used in 2009. It is my daily driver and I do all the non-major repairs. Bought it with 95k on it, it now has 158k. In the last 4 years I have replaced front pads, rear shoes, spark plugs and wires, starter, battery, and most of the door handles(plastic pieces of crap). All of the repairs are easy to do, the internet is an amazing tool. Also have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma I bought new. It has 106,000 miles on it, but I have only put 10k on it since I bought the Corolla. I hope the Corolla lasts another 3-4 years. If not I will buy another similar car for daily driving. The Tacoma I will baby until the wheels fall of it. I detest car payments.

Mostly forever...

I still have my first car I bought at age 12... a 1929 Model A Ford.

Plus I have the 72 Valiant I bought in school for $800 and it just keeps running.

My oldest car... not the longest owned is a 1905 Oldsmobile... I really plan to keep it forever!

Never had a car note and most of my cars were very cheap to buy.

Mom had her 1976 VW for 25 years and reluctanly sold it because she needed power steering due to a shoulder injury.

She plans on keeping her 2001 Corolla S as her last car...

42 years of driving and on car #6. It's only 3 years old so I should get 50 years(hopefully) out the 6 cars. If the first 3 were new maybe I could have gotten 60 years.

A car is to get from point A to point B safely in reasonable comfort.
