There is a reason that the MG-B is also hard to beat if you can keep it running - park one next to a Miata and you will see where Mazda got the idea for the Miata from.

Agree totally with most of your post, but...

In my experience, MG's are a bit more troublesome than say a Miata. I've had a couple Miata's, and they're not completely trouble-free, no car is. I've been driving my MG TD since before I had a license, about 39 years. It's only needed a tow twice in that time. Our '73 MGB with it's Oselli Stage II engine, and a bunch of other subtle performance improvements has never stranded us. We recently loaned it to my brother & his wife to drive on an 800 mile vacation. It performed flawlessly for them.

The key is keeping everything well maintained, and treating your car with mechanical sympathy. I try to keep all eleven cars in our stable in excellent condition, with no deferred maintenance. I also know how to treat cars. You can drive fast, without thrashing it, but not a whole lot of folks are savvy to that, as you probably know.

Go with a MINI Cooper S (supercharged)

I love my MINI S
I'm guessing you've never driven on a track...

Two years ago I bought a 91 Nissan 300ZX from the original owner. This is the second generation Z car. From 1990 to 1996. It was a Car & Driver Top Ten car every year it was made. Lots of them around. Mine is completely stock. Some have twin turbo motors which really fly.

Mine is a 2+2 (I have kids). 5 speed. T tops (almost all Z cars are T tops). Fun to drive. It is just a summer car for me as I live in NH...

Cost me $6000. Runs great.

SV650S 2005 - CLEAN 2,500 miles

Something like that!

thanks!
Sports Sedan, you say? Then the answer is E36 M3.

However if you can do a coupe, there is no better "rear drive, manual, and German most of all" car for $6,000 than a Porsche 944.

No. I wanted the 2+2 which did not come with a twin turbo. My brother in law has a black 2 seat 91 300ZX with the twin turbo he bought new.
