In addition to the high incidence of over tightening oil drain plugs and double-gasketing of oil filters, let's not forget that the quicky places invariably use, "white box", filters that bear no brand name, are made in China, and are...just plain junk.

Made in the same factories as the old American Company oil filters are made.
Most of these quick lube places also perform state safety inspections. I think where they really make a profit is if a customer's car has a failed safety componet ( i.e. turn signal bulbs, winshield wiper blades) and the place replaces the component to allow the customer's car to pass inspection.

Only in states that require such, which isn't the case in Michigan, where I live.
I always follow their recommended services. I don't see them as scam artists at all.
