It's all in the care given to the vehicle. Pay for a pre-purchase inspection on ANY used vehicle you're interested in, and pay an INDEPENDENT mechanic, not a dealership, for that PPI.

Having a vehicle inspected before you buy is very smart advice, even better when you are looking at an older or a vehicle with miles.
I do disagree with the statement about INDEPENDANT mechanic. Most independant mechanics are only as good, or familar with , the vehicle model years that were current when they last worked for a new car dealer. Most independant mechanics get little or no training. Some do pay for access to automotve repair sites like Mitchells that is very helpful but doesnt make up for nor comes close to what the new car dealer techs get.
I have found horrible techs at dealers and independants, but the new car dealer have more skin in the game and have the ability to take care of mistakes.
