looking mighty tight in there, how do you know you have a fluid leak in the back?.
I'd take it to a trusted mechanic and let them deal with it.

I have a 4 cylinder, the guy inspected it yesterday and told me I had the water leak by the firewall. How major is this? Is this a do or die sort of thing that needs to be taken care of asap?

According to the article I just posted, there appears to be a technical bulletin from Hyundai about this leaking issue on the Tucson but I am trying to find it now. If it's the same one, it appears to be just a design flaw so I'm guessing the dealer will repair it (free?).

Still looking.

Clarification is needed:

Re. the firewall leak we are talking about. Is that a leak with a fluid leaking out of the car or it is a leak where water (like rain) is getting into the car?

If it is the later, there is a known problem of rain leaking into the passenger side on the 2005 Tucson. If it is a rain problem, something could have shorted causing a system (like airbags) to fail thus setting off your Check Engine light.

Is it water or coolant? It is important to know.

If coolant, get it fixed immediately. Two things kill an engine in seconds or minutes: lack of oil, and lack of cooling. Don't mess around with a coolant leak.

If water, then it's either rain water, or AC water.

If you run the defrost/defog mode, that also runs the AC compressor on any modern car, so that will also produce condensation that has to drain somewhere. It's designed to drain through a small tube that runs through the firewall. If that tube gets clogged with dust or debris, it will drain very slowly, and/or it will eventually drain somewhere else.

If you have a sunroof, the channels for the glass have a drainage system too. That's another potential source for a "leak."
