My older brother had a Vega that someone dropped a 305 in. It was fast..for a Vega. It was black and it had a ton of gold metal flake in the paint. Huge fender flares on the rear quarters, aluminum slots. Pin striping was big back then as well as the aforementioned rear window louvers. Lots of chrome on the engine, mainly valve covers and air cleaners for a cheap mod.

Lowering cars by cutting coils with a torch or heating them up and allowing the weight of the car to lower it. Lowering kits were expensive and hard to find. Most lowering was home made. Bell Tech was one of the first lowering companies and they weren't cheap at the time.
Turning down the torsion bars to lower or up to lift. Making the truck ride like crap. I used to see a lot of mini trucks just bouncing down the road. Buddy had one. Absolutely the crappiest ride you will ever be in but we thought it was cool and we "improved" the handling
14 inch wheels were the norm. 15s were a double take and later became normal. 16s were a. Holy crap those are 16s and 17s and anything else were custom or super car territory. Granted as time changed wheel sizes went up.
The double windshield wipers. Made by the same company that made the rally mirror.
