Just a little update: Since I have started this thread, I have used this polisher to do approximately 25 full details, many of them being multi-step (compound, polish, LSP) and 5 of them on full size SUVs. That's a lot of hard use in a short time and I have not had a single problem so far.
Absolute statements are really if ever true. The reviews on this particular product...including my personal experience here...are good evidence of this.
I also have a HF rotary that I purchased in 2007. It has been going strong for six years with only a cord replacement.
I’m wondering if this is not a PR pitch for Harbor Freight?
What in the world would make you think that?
I've been on this forum for almost six years with nearly 11,000 posts. It's not like I am some newbie who signed up just to pimp a product. I simply found a really good, affordable product and shared that knowledge with the forum. I've done it with other products as well.
I have not personally used the Harbor Freight polisher but have heard good things from professional detailers at reputable sites such as Autopia and Autogeek
I have bought a few things form Harbor Freight. Based on reviews all over, they can be hit or moss with quality, so it would not be surprising if any random product was junk or any random product was good. The few things I have bought from them (tourque wrench, right angle air socket drive and a heat gun) have been decent quality. Maybe not the best possible, but good serviceable tools for a price that is less than the quality you seem to be getting.
On the other hand, I also noticed in an auto parts store that Meguiars has a DA attachment. If you happen to have an old corded drill laying around and wanted to get a polisher for less money, it is $60. No ide if the quality is any good and it would make a kind of unwieldy tool with the drill mounted on top, but hey, its only $60 and has a name brand on it.

It is a quality piece but it is indeed unwieldy and the pad is small. I would pass on it.
