Like many car guys/gals I've been pretty excited about the prospects of the Pontiac G8.

Now, the latest Auto Week says they will only be offered with automatics. My 80 y/o mom and metrosexual brother-in-law will be thrilled to hear that, I guess.

I don't get it. The platform already has the V8/manual combination in Australia. Other than Lutz, are there any enthusiasts left in GM?

HEY GM - there's a difference between "driving" and "operating a motor vehicle". Do something for the former.

I hope this isn't too far off topic. I work at a Jeep dealership and when the new 4 door Wranglers came out, the first ones we got were all 2WD, Automatics. I was shocked, to me it was like putting a 4 cyl. in a corvette!!!! We sold a crap load of them just because people wanted to be the first to have one, and I havn't seen one on the lot since. Go figure!!

Why would you want a 2WD Wrangler???????

GM has always been that way. To be honest, the ONLY 3 cars theyve made in the past 30 years that I would even remotely consider buying are the Camaro SS (last gen), the current Z06, and the 6.0L GTO with a manual. GM can never get the formula correct, they might have something I like, but then botch it hardcore by not offering a manual, etc, etc. IMO, if its a sporty car with a sporting engine, it should ONLY have a manual, like Honda does. There was an old Mitsubishi add in a magazine that Ill never forget to this day (for the 3000GT twin turbo), and it fits perfectly in this scenario: it said something like "unlike other companies, we only offer our fast models with manual transmissions, because what fun is it driving an automatic? That would be like flying a jet fighter on autopilot." Too true.

My family used to be loyal G.M. fans mainly because they used to make decent vehicles but mostly because my Grandpa was a V.P.of G.M.
No more !
Fool me once shame on you ,
Fool me twice ,shame on me !
Never again or Fords either for that matter.

I've got an '02 Z28, loaded, 6 spd manual with < 19K miles that I plan on selling in anticipation of purchasing the '08 Dodge Challenger, '09 Z28 or a G8 (if they come out with a manual).

Only in autos?????

I thought that it was going to be offered in a 6spd? That sucks. I guess that the station wagon based on the G8 is also not going to have a manual

I'm hoping Auto Week got it wrong because all this time GM said the manual would debut later in the year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
