Well no recall has been issued as of yet. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is investigating the complaints received from 4 owners of fuel pump failure. The investigation covers a total of 167,000 Elantras between years 2007-2008.
Ok, so where is the IAC valve located?? Again, its a 2008 hyundai elantra
In the throttle body, attached to the intake manifold where the intake duct coming form the airbox is attached. Or there about.
Simply cleaning the throttle body/butterfly plate may do the trick. Get some B12 Chemtool, spray it a rag and wipe all the crud off of the plate and the bore as best as possible, reassemble the duct and start it. If that is indeed the problem, you will notice an improvement of the idle.
Replace the FUEL FILTER then have a mechanic check the fuel pressure to see if the pump has been damaged. As mentioned cleaning the intake and using some cleaning chemical in the next couple of tanks of gas won't hurt.
Since there is a recall on many of these vehicles concerning the fuel pump its best to call your local dealership or contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
If you get the run-around contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
With it unbolted you can just spray carb cleaner in the holes to remove any buildup. You also need to remove the air intake hose and clean the throttle body. MANY older vehicles get build up around the throttle body which leads to them either sticking shut or being into a position where they are always slightly open. Being slightly open throws off the IAC system and it can't correct for the idle and leads to stalling. The recommended approach is soaking a rag in carb cleaner and stuffing it in the thriottle body with the butterfly open. Leave it there for around 20 minutes or so. Then remove the rag and use it to wipe down all the surfaces. Reassemble and you should be good to go.
If there is an active recall on your car, I would look into it, but I'm not convinved that's what's causing your problem.
So I took my car to the mechanic yesterday.. ( Friday) throttle was cleaned out and resealed the IAC Valve. Took the car out on the highway today and seems to be doing much much better....thanks to all for your advice
