I would think a vehicle with easy to find spare parts would be better.
Good point, which is why I would say nein to any German vehicles, no matter how well they can run over zombies. Instead, buy a domestic truck and when the first outbreak occurs, immediately head over to parts distribution warehouses and stock up on spare parts.

1st gen Dodge cummins 4x4 dually with winch / FUEL / welder / Genset, and foam filled tires.

Whatever you choose... it MUST be dual fuel or Diesel so you can 'brew-you-own".

Simple... no electronics / computer, very little (preferably NO) PLASTICS.

I have been equipped this way since the late 1960's (minus the foam filled tires). AND I had to wait till 1989 for a CTD (before that there were many other diesel options). Of course, I will retain my 50 mpg Rabbits for 'road trips'. The 8800# CTD only gets 20 mpg. It can be real handy to have a welder/generator & winch with you at all times.

I will keep my dozer for Heavy Moving... but it is not too keen on 'road-trips'.

I will be SURE not to have any troublesome ECU's that could be prone to EMI !!! Besides... China might not be willing to sell us the spare parts to keep our 'boxes' alive.

BTW... you can fetch a 1st Gen CTD 4x4 for under $3000. Frugal / Barter is king... get a few spares, but don't go overboard... (Like my 34 VW diesels been hanging around since Y2K.) Parts for both are Very CHEAP and ez to find / fab / keep / hide.

Pontiac Aztec.

Who in their right mind, or even their deranged mind, would go near it?

Yeah but other survivors might. Anytime you have to leave your vehicle unattended you risk it being looted or stolen.

Locking it up and having the keys on one person might be a liability if in need of a fast get away.

An old beat up suburban that runs great might go unnoticed.

With the addition of the some light armor in certain areas and a trailer to help carry supplies I think this would work. Figure pulling a smaller camper trailer with a garage , you can have a little more living space , can carry a side by side UTV, a snowmobile and a jetski. Can go anywhere, is self sufficient, and have some extended range with the other vehicles for scouting and scavenging. Both the truck and trailer would need roof accessibility though. It would be much better with a basic , non electronics diesel as well.
