I would think first something electrical and start with the obvious, check electrical connections around the battery first.

I have same problem with 2002 Chevy S10 4 banger.
Lights, inside & out, headlights, work. No response with key - ground cables obviously good because the lights & radio, work

any clues would be appreciated

Truck is cherry - but I don't drive it cause I can't trust it.

I have a 2006 ford ranger xlt 2wd, while driving my motor just turned off but everything else was on, while driving it didn't shake or sputter it just turned off, I was trying to give it gas but nothing then just pulled over to a stop, first thing I thought was oh **** my transmission, then I turned the truck completely off and tried to restart it and it was trying to kick over and restart but would sputter and wouldn't go, so even around an hour still did the same thing. So my brother came to me and pulled me back into town (he left work to help me) and I had the truck "on" and in neutral while being towed back with no power steering and was extremely hard to hit the brakes, anyways as I was being towed back I was able to start it, and I kept it running and was able to drive it back home and the next morning to work, I bought a new fuel filter ($14 not installed yet) but got premium gas just hopefully to help, the fuel filter for this truck is easily located on the driver side underneath the truck on the INSIDE OF THE FRAME, super simple to change out even with no experience, have a rag as a little bit if gas will come out and safety glasses to protect your eyes as you will be under the fuel line, not sure if it's the problem but as cheap as a $14 fix won't hurt to try

I have a 99 Honda accord and it does the same thing but the thing it only does it in a high temperature weather when it gets to 60 degrees.other then that it works fine in the cold. But it's weird that every time I fill up my gas tank the car it shuts down to. So now I only do it half tank and drive it in the cold and it works fine.
