Yes, that is true.

The 1956 Chrysler 300-B had a 354-cu-in Hemi engine with 340 and 355 hp available.

My father used one of these in a Kaiser Henry J, and was California state C gas champion for 1960. I always believed the Chevrolet claim of the 1957 283 until about 10 years ago when I learned the truth.

Thanks to my father for my mad fab skills! Some can buy, others can build, but most here just talk trash.

And even if there was no '56 Chrysler with the 354-Hemi/355 hp engine, there was the '57 DeSoto. The Adventurer model came standard with a 345-Hemi with 345 hp!

Heck there are cars doing over 300mph in 1/4 of a mile. Who cares about this crap? What are you going to do with such a car on the roads? Drive it around and pound your chest and say, look at me, look at me? These cars are for people to show off and nothing more. I am more impressed with cars running faster than this on the drag strip. Have a look at the fastest street cars if you want to really be impressed. They make these silly speed records look like a joke. 1/4 of a mile! Please.

If you look on page 13 you would see me giving kudos to Ashley Force. However, these cars can be run in events like this.

Silver State Classic Challenge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This has always been one of my favorites.

Big Red Camaro!

I started the thread to honor and American engine, tuned by Americans, with the foresight to stuff it into a race chassis. A 9 second quarter mile ET is pretty impressive for a car to be driven on the street. Here in Nevada we have a lot of open roads.

Oh - and when it comes to horsepower. I have a 61 cubic inch engine in my garage that's producing 110 horsepower . And it's a low-performer for it's size.

What I was trying to get at was that the American car I wanted to buy is actually more German than the German car I ended up buying. The new buicks are pretty slick machines - once you get passed the hideous seats. The car itself, is pretty nice.
