GM did attempt to make a few "sporty" wagons.

Hey, don't forget the Cavalier wagon with the optional 2.8 and later 3.1L V6. Oooohhh sooo fast! <sarcasm>

I know a lot of people who had GM A-body cars (as pictured above) including wagon versions and had fairly good luck with them and liked them.

Yeah they were actually pretty good cars when equipped with a V6, but the 4cyl versions were underpowered. Of the group, I always like the Pontiac 6000 the best.

I really miss the '92 Buick Roadmaster I had until the NH salt ate the frame out from under it. That car did everything well. I got over 25 mpg on a flat interstate, could go well over 100 mph and was capable of passing sports cars on a twisty two lane road. It could also haul half a brick of 4x8 plywood.

With the bottom end torque and the converter multiplier it shutdown many ricers at the stop light drags even when they were trying. After one event a friend of mine looked back at the guy and said, "You've been shutdown by Santa Clause." Great fun.

I mean to find another.

Since 2014 when this thread was active, they have actually come back, starting with the Outback, but also the German station wagons by VW, Audi, Mercedes and Mini, also Volvo. They lost their favor not because they were ugly, it was the "Soccer Mom" stigma, which is now causing the end of the minivan in favor of the 3 row SUV. These modern wagons appear more like an SUV or crossover so they are not shunned.
