Adult in the middle?
I would assume one of the seats would be in the middle.

My friends have 3 car seats in a RAV4.
It is my (irrelevant) opinion that they need a bigger car.

Third row seats tend to suck in everything but a minivan.

Once we have 2 car seats in my wife's SRX, we are just going to two cars for family + grandparents outings.

The MDX is the best choice for a midsize SUV.

^ MDX is a good car, but a lot of people in the more affordable segment choose the GMC Acadia. And it's listed at 61" 2nd row shoulder width, which is 2" better than the MDX. One other thing is that if you're buying new, the MDX just got redesigned for 2014 and you don't want the first year model run of any car if you want less headaches.

BTW, the Tahoe has a whopping 65" of 2nd row shoulder room. Can't use exterior dimensions.

We do this all the time - in both our MDX and Explorer, no problems. We have 3 kids all in full size carseats (2 britax marathons and 1 britax frontier), who usually sit 3 across in the middle row. When we have extra adults visiting, we boot our oldest to the 3rd row, and put the adult behind the front passenger. It's much easier to do that and have to seats right next to eachother. That way the adult gets their own window and door, and doesn't have to climb over anything. My Dh fits fine next to the 2 car seats, and he's pretty big (tall and over 250lbs at times). My parents have an Acadia, and that works too.

The Acadia is listed as a full size crossover, it's a foot longer than the mid sized MDX, it should have bigger dimensions. But, that is not what the OP was looking for. For a midsize SUV, it's hard to beat the room found in the MDX.

Agreed! My Mitsubishi Outlander has Third Row Seating for 2 and it's a sad joke, especially the flip-up headrests. Look at the pic below!

I never use them and would never think of putting anyone back there, unless it was an emergency and HAD to carry 2 more people.

Hmm? I wonder if I can get an insurance rate reduction for having 'em though? LOL!

When we were looking at the Escalade, we laughed at them bc there weren't even any wells for your feet.
Who are you gonna make sit there? Not your 66 year old mother.

When I got my 4Runner, I was like, No way! Useless and kills your cargo room, even if you flip them down.

I'm guessing you don't have young kids with carseats? My sister has a 5 month old with a Honda Accord and while he can fit 'comfortably' it's murdering her back to have to bend down to get him in & out. It's much easier to get a child in & out of a higher up vehicle.

My suv handles & brakes just fine
