I've been wondering about that lately with the German makers. This seems to be a 2015 thing. Majority of the 2014 interiors all have great looking center consoles with the screens built into the dash.

I thought the new Golf interior looked great as well when I first saw pictures of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look so great in person. The piano-black plastic that surrounds the center console looks rather ritzy and modern in this picture. But when you actually sit in the car, you notice that it gives off an unsettling glare and is a dust and fingerprint magnet. And because it occupies such large real estate, it's pretty disconcerting and distracts from the rest of mostly-well-put-together dashboard.
I love the materials and design in Audi interiors, but have grown tired of the relentless blackness and red LED lighting within many of them. The interior that Merc showed here, with its tan leather and blonde wood, is more up my alley.
Based on the cars that I sat in at the Auto Show, my favorite mass-produced interior has to be the 2014 Mercedes E-Class. It has a rather understated elegance that exudes an old-school Hollywood vibe:
Overall, the newest Mercedes-Benz cars have my vote for best interior.

At the latest auto show I went to, I also fell in love with MB's interior. I just wish they would clean up the buttons. There really is no reason for a number pad anymore. Between voice recognition for the navigation and blue tooth/voice recognition for cell phone calls, why have a number pad at all.
Outside the realm of luxury cars, I really like the interior of the new Honda Civics. This image is of the new SI. 24K will get you this car with the interior just like it.
Of all of the interiors posted, I wouldn't have any of them if they were free. I absolutely hate any interior with a console that runs under the dash. Great looks, no doubt, but incredibly uncomfortable on long trips. I also office out of my vehicle and none of these would make it a day before I cut and carried wood to burn it to the ground. The *** cars are grossly too small and built for girly men. The Euro cars aren't much different. Some of the American cars with their cab forward designs I can't even get in. At 6'4", and I'm not even a big guy around here, they've cut way too much out of the interiors. Make mine a Ford truck with no console. Loads of room to get comfy.
