You might try using a shock-absorbing seat cushion. Potholes are especially irritating to me, especially when it takes the City a year to get around to filling them in.
Thanks for the suggestion, and yes, it did occur to me since posting this that maybe the psychology section would be the better place to post this. I just thought of here at first blush because it involves driving, which of course involves cars. I just figured maybe others could relate if they had also become more sensitive to bumpy roads in their 40s than they had been in their 20s and 30s.
Again, I don't know for SURE, but I theorize it's due to the experiences years ago having burned memories in my brain, that's my guess. Seriously, the driveway was bad enough that my brother-in-law got his truck stuck in it. It was quite a deal having to maneuver on such a driveway, and having to deal with it 2-3 times everyday for 2½ years (coupled with the experiences with the in-laws' shock-absorber-less vehicle) really probably took its toll on me. That's my guess anyway, because it's been since that time (or close to it) that I've found myself bothered by bumps this way in ways I wasn't bothered prior to that time.
It is a 2002 Saturn. It has nothing to do with the vehicle, because I am that way in every vehicle I'm in except for perhaps larger smoother-riding vehicles (like my mother's Lincoln Town Car with air suspension when she owned one). I used to dart around in small Geo Metro type of cars and sometimes even drive them on gravel types of roads and it didn't bother me, this was back in my 20s and even into a bit of my 30s.
I have also noticed I don't like being in any car pretty much for any long length of time, even on pretty short 6 hour trips I ask out of the car about every 2 hours to stretch my legs. I recall driving straight from NC to FL on a spring break trip in my 20s and hardly needing a break except when necessary to fill up the gasoline tank.
This is why I prefer driving a larger full size car for that exact reason. People shouldn't have endure the punishment of pothole ridden streets, it's not healthy nor good for one's well being over time.
Has a mechanic totally ruled-out the possibility of worn-out shocks/struts?
The strange irony here, is that worn out shocks, can make a car more comfortable. The car just bobs about a bit, but that in its self, can become irksome.
What the OP needs is a VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) Flying Car! Minimal bumps, less stress! Ahhhh!!
