You obviously haven't heard about the protectionism built in to foreign markets. For example, in China any foreign manufacturer (such as GM or Mercedes or Nissan) HAS to partner with a local manufacturer in order to sell cars. In Japan, heavy tarriffs are put on foreign cars, which is why very few foreign cars are sold in Japan. Same with certain European countries (which is why GM and Fords in Europe and the UK are designed and built there for the most part). Any country that builds cars builds in protectionism for it's domestic production and promotes "buy local."
