Other than Frontier, are there any new trucks that have a manual transmission as an option?

The Ram? I hear the low-end GMC twins will have that as well.

The Ram 2500 has a manual, as does the Toyota Tacoma. The Upcoming Colorado/Canyon might as well.

Yea, I investigated this a little. You can only get the Ram 2500 with a standard transmission with the diesel engine.

good choice

The economy of a mini truck in the package / safety / utility of an 8,000# vehicle that can tow 20,000# for 1 million miles.

I like that... I have 3 (nothing newer than '93 tho..., I will never wear them out in my lifetime )

In some cases you desire / need a mini. I have found the Datsuns to be a pretty good work truck option to the Toyota (Until the USA gets the HiLux diesel (the (correct) Choice of militants worldwide). When the revolution comes to USA, you will probably need that early generation Dodge Cummins (no computer to break) Runs happily on many varieties of alternative fuels.

If I would decide to go with a diesel, what kind of mileage can I expect? What is the capacity of the fuel tank?

In a Dodge Cummins Manual, 18 - 22 mpg running light... without towing
36.5 gal tank is stock. Optional tanks are available. I carry a 140 gal tank in the bed.

Chevy Dura Max and Ford seem to get 18 at best (YMMV) I took each on 4,000 mile trips last year and they got 12 towing and 18 empty.

Of course Std tank is no where near the range of my VW diesel Passats (52 mpg with 25 gal tank... 1200 mile +), I take a lot of 'pickup loads' with the Passats, using my 2000gvw 'Snowbear' utility trailer. Also my $300 Rabbit Diesel Pickup for light loads up to 3,000#. http://www.city-data.com/forum/membe...0-caddy-rf.jpg

One of the cummins W350's for up to 30,000# (with 3axle trailer)

and my Mack for larger loads. up to 66,000#GVW

Have a Kenworth Semi Tractor if I need to haul extra heavy. But the VW's do 95% of my errand / estimates / daily work and are dirt cheap to buy, insure, and keep on the road.

We seem to have veered off topic, but what do you think of the mid-90's ford 250 diesel? They are far more common than the dodge diesel. For a reason?

I have found it's hard to find a manual transmission in a new Ford truck or GM truck. Everybody seems to want automatic instead of manual anymore. Dodge is only the only one that gives you a choice.

In the 80s-90s Dodge wasnt a huge seller. So there are a lot less Dodges of those eras running around. I've known guys with diesels and they range anywhere from 14-20freeway ( with 20 being on the high end)
My Diesel gets about 16.5 on the freeway streets 12 average. I really don't drive it around town. It's mainly for long drives.
I have buddies with newer Dodge, Ford and Chevy diesels. Depending on the year they. Get anywhere from 14 to 19-20. None of them has gotten anywhere near 22-25 mpg.
All these numbers are no towing.
