Hi all

I have noticed something new on the roads here. You know how guys "race" in the street. Boys never grow, we are all guilty. So normally it was muscle cars, or sleepers, or some modded large engines. Then Hondas pitched their share, then Acuras.. The usual.
Noticed more and more of new breed though. In fact, another one yesterday. Driving like they stole it, passing everyone on FWY, pushing into every gap in traffic..

Guess who. Hyundai and KIA. Every time they zip past me, and I am by far not the slowest on the road, I raise my eyebrows.

At least where I live, drag racing that I used to be part of at every stop light is all but dead. Yeah, you do see those hideous loud civics here and there but as a culture it is not what it used to be in the 60s and 70s.

Don't see it here in TX. Frankly, I'd be thrilled to see Kia and Hyundai drivers "speeding"... That would put them at the same speed as the rest of us for once.

^^^^ easy on Prii.. I "raced" one once. With rather a large female behind the wheel. She dusted me. I live in old Boeing employee retirement area, it's rather rednecky blue collar recklessness. That gal somehow took it personally..
See, those basically have electrical supercharger mated with engine. Under unlikely circumstance of a breakneck driver behind the wheel, they can be quite a menace. I can vouch for my Camry Hybrid.

Otherwise, that's what I was saying. Hondas. Civics. Maybe a F Focus. Mazdas. But Hyundai and KIAs? And this happens to me almost several times a week. To the point that I had to spill it here. Here as in Seattle area. Plenty of ricers, that's for sure, comes with huge Asian population in the area, but every time I glance at passing driver, it's a white boy in there. Like one that did me yesterday, and I was going 69. He just rocketed and zig zagged between and past every car on I-5.

Based on personal experience, the worst offenders by a long way are Maximas and Altimas. Not every aggressive driver is in one of those, granted, but it happens often enough that it's noticeable to me.

I remember riding with a buddy with a Geo Metro once. Was kind of cool, you could wind it up, drop the clutch and rip through the gears. No one around you ever noticed...because you were still barely keeping up with traffic.

Kinda like that.
