Never realized how much of a challenge it can be to buy a new luxury vehicle. So would anyone have any perspectives on how much could this CLA depreciate in the next 5 years or so of owning it? It hasn't been out in the market too long so obviously has no history but perhaps a wild guess? I suppose anyone buying a CLA brand new would probably feel a little sledged if the second gen of the model gets launched next year or so with improvements. The value of the current model would most likely depreciate steeply.
Also, for a used vehicle - would it be best to purchase it from a franchise dealership or independent dealer ? I'm guessing it would all vary - but is there anyone with good/bad experiences/recommendations?

one valuable I learned from my dad is never buy 1st year production car...let alone a new series/segment. Too many kinks to iron out. Now if you want to look like you drive the lastest fashion accessory...then go for it.
Going slightly used on a car that has massive depreciation
Now that is one urban myth if there ever was one. Everybody is looking for a luxury car that sold for $70K and after three years people are dumping it for $30K. There are none. Even f there were, that would be a good reason to avoid it.
Actually I just searched for a CL250 and found a 2014 sports model 9k miles going for 30k and I'm sure its about 40k or more brand new. So it seems as though the car has already lost 10k in less than a year !

MB has the worst depreciation of any luxury/high end automobile.

many 2014 are sold in 2013. Even now, some other makes have 2015 coming out
You want luxury with an above average depreciation and reliability? Go with Lexus. You want luxury with maintanence nightmares and heavy depreciation, go with Mercedes Benz.
If I was looking for a luxurious car I not even consider the German cars as they are priced far above their value. I would be looking for a top end Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Chevy/Ford sedan instead of their next level "luxury" names. These cars provide about 90% of perfect for less than 60% of the price.
I disagree. BMW does not change its body style very often so the cars maintain their value longer. You can be driving a 2006 328i or a 2011 328i and no one will know the difference. I always by my luxury cars used. I only replace them when I want to buy into the newer body style.
