Isn't that the definition of a warranty?

I guess you could technically say that a warranty is a guarantee against defects in workmanship that would cause an item fail.. But.. Yeah, at the end of the day there *IS* a guarantee on anything that you buy that has a warranty. More commonly on New, Remanufactured and Rebuilt.. But sometimes on used as well.

They guarantee that it won't fail.. But if it does, they will do X, Y and/or Z to make it right.

Replacement is guaranteed not the lifetime of the part. No one knows that.

Eh.. Semantics, I guess. I look at it as cause and effect. The effect is replacement if the cause is failure during the warranty period. So.. I look at a warranty as a guarantee against failure during the warranty period.

They are saying "This part will not fail within 5yrs/100k miles". They aren't saying that it will last at LEAST that long, or they'll replace it.

Now, if you tell me you work in a law firm.. Suddenly things are going to become clear about this.. We're, at the root, coming to the same outcome.. But getting there from different roads..
