I only ask as I just bought my car a few months ago and in the service records the water pump was replaced a few years ago by previous owner by dealer. Do you think they changed/flushed the coolant at that time also?

How many quarts of coolant were on the bill?

Doubtful. They probably drained enough to avoid making a big mess before they removed the water pump, but then they usually just add it back when they're done.

And on some cars, the water pump can be removed with only minimal loss of coolant, so if that is the case they might not have even drained any beforehand.

Definitely didn't flush it out. Unless it was an added service.

Yes they did change it. But technically they didn't. Whatever coolant was dumped out when they removed the water pump. They just added more coolant to fill it back up.

Gotcha. I'll play it safe and do a full coolant drain at 100K (I'm at 77K now)

This is the new super long life coolant that every manufacturer seems to be using these days

A good mechanic can test the coolant and tell you the condition, and whether it needs replacing.
