I have a 85 mustang fox body that starts some times an sometimes it doesn't an I smell gas but see no leak any idea what this could be

An '85 would have a carb originally. I would start there if you don't see any gas leaking from a fuel line or fitting.

Are the times you smell gas the times it doesn't start? It could be flooded.
