I have a 2012 Chevy Impala. Very recently I've noticed a grinding sound when either making a left turn while accelerating or reversing from a parking position. I've noticed that gently accelerating while making that turn prevents that sound for the most part ( I tend to have a heavy foot). I've done much research online and traction control issues seem to be what I'm reading more frequently then not.

Anyone else have this problem?

And yes, it will be taken to a mechanic once my husband has an off day so thanks in advance for that suggestion :-)

Sounds like a possible wheel bearing/hub. JM2C

Wheel bearing would be my first suspect, also. Prematurely worn shackle pins might be another possibility, if the car suspension has them.
How's the wear on your tires? Do you have any feather edge wear, cupping, etc?
Do you feel any vibration through the steering column when this grinding occurs?

Is your ABS light on too? Traction control systems use the ABS to determine wheel slip. If one of the sensors is bad it will cause the computer to think one wheel is accelerating out of control and activate the brake on that wheel to stop it. GMs have always had relatively loud ABS systems.

When you come to a stop does it feel like your brakes release for a split second before you actually stop?

Usually if the T/C activates, there is a light on the dash that indicates that.

I would tend to suspect a bad/failing wheel bearing and/or CV axle at this point

Thanks for the replies...........

I may recall a slight feeling in the steering column when this occurs

My husband noticed the light come on twice at the time he heard the grinding sound but the light isnt on constantly and I've never noticed the light even though it seems to grind more while I'm driving than him

our tires should be fine(even though i havent personally inspected them) three of them have been replaced within the last year

havent noticed the brakes release when this occurs

If you're feeling it in the steering wheel and you're not getting any alerts by way of blinking lights or lights staying on, you've most likely got an mechanical issue, and not an electrical or sensor issue. You need a mechanic with front end experience to take it for a test drive.
