This. Ours has 280,000 on it. When the engine goes we're going to replace the engine & keep it.

I have a 2000 Mazda Protégé with almost 190,000 on it. More likely though when it goes I'll cash out on a truck.

Oh my goodness yes, most of the people I know here in PA with Camrys and Corollas have 200,000+ miles on them and still going strong. The newer ones don't seem to rust out as quickly either (heavy salt use in this area).

I also have my old Ford truck, not only am I attached to it, it has been wonderfully reliable over the years and it seems there is always something someone needs to haul (either me, my family, or friends/neighbors), so keeping it around has been really worthwhile.

A lot of it has to do with what people can afford and how comfortable they are driving an older, higher mileage car.
The rest of it is because certain makes or models are no longer produced so those owners will do everything they can to drive them until the wheels come off

A lot of us Saturn, Subaru, and Volvo owners are in this category.

A neighbor of mine has owned a 1989 Suburban 3/4 ton since new, had 361,000 miles on it. The heads have never been off the block.

I had a 2000 Jeep Cherokee that I kept until 2012. It had over 180k miles on it and was running great. I never had to put very much money into it over the years and was sad to get rid of it. The only thing wrong with it was the AC was broken and I was moving to Florida. I bought another Jeep and hope to keep it at least that long. I see a few old style Cherokees around here.

Being in my 83rd year, I'm starting to get rid of "things" that I have acquired in years past..

Example: ,,....A 1996 Jaguar XJS, 2+2 CONVERTIBLE........48000 ORIGINAL miles.....all the service receipts from the dealership that did the service work. MINT CONDITION........I don't think the rear seat has ever been sat in. ....I am the 2nd owner!!!!!!...Just put new tires on it 400 miles ago.

Color is a beautiful Metallic Jade Green.......Top is Tan 99% condition.......Interior is Perfect condition IVORY LEATHER throughout......beautiful original Factory Wooden Dash Board accents and Steering wheel...etc,etc,etc.

Since you are familiar with this type of vehicle,.........any suggestions re how I can get "top dollar" out of it.

Thanks....................................

I'm always fascinated by the proportion of mentions of imports to domestics here, especially European and especially unusual imported brands (Jaguar, really?) Maybe it's just that I'm right under the Iron Range and we tend to buy domestically here?

People usually keep their Buicks for a long time, until they end up at their estate sales, at least.

High-mileage Volvos seem popular.

I think it's your location, yes. In my particular little corner of Southern California, imports easily outnumber domestics (well, not taking into consideration that some "import" makes are actually manufactured here). It seems like every other car is a Mercedes or BMW, and I do see quite a few Jaguars every day. My 9-year-old son is into car watching, and on a 40-minute round trip around our local area today he counted off two Ferraris, two Maseratis, a McLaren, a Jaguar F-type, and too many Porsches to count.
