I always wonder if its possible for someone to hit one, and the line to break and go into on coming traffic.

I knew someone that was killed by a guardrail. It got disconnected from its base after the car crashed into it and the loose rail whipped into the car, killing the driver.

It's important to understand these guardrails have saved lives as the ones they replaced were far more deadly. It's a matter of money, conceivably you can make a car that is 100% survivable in any crash but that is pointless if no one can afford the car. The same argument can be made about these guard rails.

The only question here is if this company hid or manipulated data on their tests. The failed tests they are reporting in the media may have been from prototype designs.

I see more and more cable style guardrails on interstates and dont see the point... so if a person loses control on black ice instead of sliding relatively nicely into the center grassy median they will have a nasty encounter with these guardrails.... why exactly?

So that they don't have an even nastier encounter with oncoming traffic on the other side of the median.

The videos of how a cable device captures a car and doesn't bounce it back into traffic are amazing.

Once you leave the roadway all bets are off. It is time to have the car and gaurd rails sacrifice themselves to save you.

That is not very bright to hide information from states and the federal government! They have endless buildings full of lawyers just waiting to tie a company up in court for years...$$

I see no mention of a standard(s). In the absence of a standard to which the guardrails must adhere, it is the fault of whomever permitted the guardrail to be installed. Not the manufacturer.
