Bringing this topic back up, the Civic, Corolla and even the CRV have CVT transmissions. I really don't want a CVT tranny. Still looking for a not too expensive car with very low maintenance and that most all independent shops can fix things.

Has anyone had experience with a dual-clutch automatic transmission? I have been looking at the updated 2016 Acura ILX -it has the 2.4 liter engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Yes, I know the ILX has been known as a "luxury civic" but the 2016 looks interesting. The 2.4 is very reliable, but I'm having trouble with all these new fancy transmission that cars are coming out with. Here's the link:

Personally, they're new enough I just don't trust them, yet. In my experience a manual is longer-lasting and more reliable too.

I recently made the decision to skip Ford's new DCT auto-manual in the new(ish) Focus i just got and went with the same manual tranny they've been using since the days of the Escort. (Our '03 Focus has 220,000 miles on it and is still on the original clutch...)

If you're convinced you need a Honda, they still make a standard transmission, too, if I'm not mistaken.
