How does AAA check the car out? Our AAA has no such facility. It is just an office.

Yes, always sold cars from CL or the want ads. Always advertises as one owner , mileage, and have all paper work. I did make it clear on bill of sale that it is AS IS. Usually sold within a week or less.

The problem comes when you still hold a loan on the car and don't have title in hand.

In this situation it just makes it easier and less complicated to sell to dealer/Carmax.

Many personal buyers don't want to deal with hassle of purchasing a car without title in hand

My husband bought a car from carmax in 2016 (2007) Mazda CX-7 and it had 126,000 so they do sell cars over a 100,000 miles. And it was the worst buy ever! The cars is not running now. And we still owe 6,000 on the car. Any suggestions on what we can do about this?

If it is too high mileage or not in good enough shape for them to sell it, they will resell it to a wholesaler or sell it at auction. The main thing to them is whether they can make money on the deal.
