Hey. I bought a used 2003 Mustang, and it had only 1 key. I want to get a 2nd one just in case.

How would I go about this? Do I need to go to a dealership and pay hundreds for it? Or can I simply make a copy somewhere?

How do I know if it's programmed or not?

Thanks guys!

Not sure how accurate this info is, but it seems you need to have two of them to be able to programme it yourself.

Can I program a second key myself if I have one working key?

Not cheap but Lowes makes a duplicate from one key for $70.

check with your local locksmith shops that do automotive keys.

many have the equipment to duplicate/program keys at a fraction of the cost of a dealership.

Home Depo is also cheaper than the dealership.

But you still have to have it programmed at the dealer or a locksmith.

No, for that price they do it all. You can have blanks without RFID cut for a few bucks.
