Maybe a little extravagant but I always change the tires on my vehicles once they reach 6 years of age, sometimes even sooner, regardless of the mileage or the age of the vehicle, the age of the actual tires.
Living in I-10 country the reports of single vehicle accident / roll-overs due to tire failure / blowouts are almost daily and are considerably more expensive, not to mention the pain and suffering, than a new set of tires every 5 or 6 years.
MY TWO CENTS WORTH
I drive enough that actually don't have to worry about replacing them every 5-6 years. It's 3-4 due to use
