Me too, when mustang came out in 64, it was a cheap production car for everyone, and not made very well.
The car took off, and in 68 it was put on a 67 Cougar frame, and the start of the nice ones, however they went to hell when the EPA started messing with the auto industry in the early 70s.
If you can get a 68 to 72 mustang, you have a classic.
They are beautiful cars. I do not normally like convertibles because of safety but I do love how the mustang convertible looks .
We will do a buyers inspection, usually for about a hundred bucks.
Put the car on a rack, check for signs of damage, measure the frame, pull the tires, check brakes, compression test, computer diag. fluids, etc.
Another thing to watch for, popular with shady dealers, is they will get a sensor reading, but they can reset it, and it will not show up again until you put a couple hundred miles on the car.
Generally speaking avoid a dealer unless you can get a guarantee.
When you buy from owner, you can at least get the option to speak with the owners, sure they can lie, but you can make your own decision.
About the best thing going, and little known, is a used 4 door Audi.
They have no resale value, especially if they are diesel. nobody buys them for some reason, and you can get a really nice, luxury car, for relatively cheap.
Diesel cars have not caught on in America have they? My neighbor does prefer a private seller too but sometimes it doesnt work out that way and we all end up having to go to a dealer.
