Hi everyone. As the title states, I am looking for a year 2000 or newer, 4 door mid/full sized American car for 6 grand or less. What would you recommend?

My family car is a 2012 Ford Escape but it has finally come time to purchase another car. I can do a 2 door but no RWD sports cars please, I live in western NY and have done the whole "mustang in the winter time" which isn't fun. I prefer American brands so no imports please (dont have a problem with them, just prefer to buy American). It will be used mostly for short trips around town so I'm not to worried about long distance comfort or anything.

I think that's enough info, let me know if there is other info I should include in this post. Thanks!

Since you don't want to spend that much money, how about a retired police cruiser?

Most are crown vics, a full sized car by any measure.

I'd go with a Chevy Impala. Something RWD isn't going to be good. You will be able to find a fairly new Impala in good condition for that amount of money. One with the 3.8 would be best. It will be dirt cheap to maintain and run forever.

But the OP doesn’t want RWD. I wouldn’t either in snow country. That would put him in the SUV category but you are looking at 100,000 miles or more.

I think most, if not all, Buick sedans are FWD.

RWD in snow country is easy.
