Plus, on the way down you get the pleasure of seeing the gas mileage displaying at 99.9 mpg!
And the Vermonters manage their Priuses on snowy dirt roads. Or have you seen issues?

Oh, please. I drive a 2013 Prius over 10,000 ft. elevation passes and on 8% grades at high altitude constantly. It has more than adequate power to maintain the speed limit and more, and still gets excellent fuel economy. The Prius is also the best 2WD vehicle that I've ever owned as far as winter driving goes. Really, about the only thing that limits its traction is if it high-centers in snow. It has about 5" of ground clearance--about the same as most 2WD cars. That very good winter performance is with decent all-season tires, by the way, not dedicated snow tires. And, yes, I live in snow country.

Hmm. I wonder if a hybrid would have an advantage at high altitude as the air pressure shouldn't matter for electric?

No to mention the constant torque of an electric motor.

I have a 2012 Prius 2 and it climbs up hills fine. The gas mileage really suffers though (no surprise).

Pretty much any car can drive up hills fine. Some cars will struggle more than others. Is the Prius an ideal car for mountainous driving? No. Especially in regions where they get heavy snow during the winter months.

Did anyone claim it was the ideal car for mountainous driving? No.
