Question Oil Filters

If you change your own oil, what kind of oil filters do you intall? Should I go for the "economy" filter, or the premium filter for a few $$ more? Does it make any real difference? Who makes the worst filters, and who makes the best? Do you have any "horror" stories about filters? Do you change them every time with the oil, or every other time?
For the curious and enquiring mind, here is a good read:

K&N Gold Filters are what I have used lately on the car.

When I used to race motorcycles all of the engine builders recommended us to use the factory OEM filters. The one time I did use a more expensive aftermarket "racing" filter the O-ring failed. Luckily it was right after re-assembling the cases and not while on the track at speed.

Easy one, Bud

Considering the price of a premium oil and filter service compared to the price of a new engine, I buy the best (K&N is my first choice) filter and have it changed every time the oil is changed which is about 3k miles.

According to people I know who are really into this sort of thing and confirmed by your link I would avoid any filter made by fram.

Since my daily driver is a GM product, I use AC Delco oil filters as much as I can.

If not AC Delco, I'll use Purolater or Wix if I can find them.

I try not to use Fram oil filters anymore than I have to.

Me too, I use Purolator PureOne (their premium quality filter). No Frams, no generic brand cheapos. Although the OEM filter for my car is also fine, I don't use the OEM because it would require a trip to the dealer, which is not convenient for me and they are very time consuming for a simple transaction. I can pick up Purolator PureOne at places like Pep Boys for just over $5.

For the record, I've never had a problem with Fram or store brand filter. I change my own oil every 3000 miles. My last 4 cars all went over the 250k mark without any lubrication-related problems. I also realize that many here have torn engines down and rebuilt them. I haven't. I know you have seen things that I can't comprehend, so maybe I'm missing something that would lead you to use premium brand filters.

I use Fram filters and the cheaper oil. I change both every 3,000 miles and have racked up over 120,000 miles without issue.

My personal opinion is that i believe as long as you change your oil and filter on a regular basis you won't have a problem and as far as fram filters go, if they were really that bad they would cause damage and I haven't seen anyone with real proof of that and if there was I'm sure fram would change thier design.
