Friends just leased one. Over the past 10 years they'd had a Mercedes C class, then two Infinitis, G35 and G37. They are thrilled with this Kia, though I was surprised at the choice because I thought the brand was important to them. But apparently not.
I drive a 2006 Infiniti M35x that I bought new. I have never owned a more comfortable, reliable car. Or more boring. This year I'll finally overcome the inertia and get something else with more pizzazz!
As for my other question, are there any other cars out there that haven't been covered above that I should be looking at? Is there another 'sleeper' car in this segment I should be considering?
Yes. 2015 Chevrolet SS. It's a rebadged Holden Commodore. 6.2L V8, RWD, comparatively understated styling. Another option is the Infiniti counterparts to Lexus. My personal favorite is the G37 (or whatever the current badge says).

I used to think like you during my teenage years, but ever since I got brainwashed during my years in college, I now find it hard for people to not want to think independently.
Look at it this way:
A) $65K Kia = $65K Kia
B) $65K Lexus = $15K nameplate + $50K Lexus
C) $65K Merc = $20K nameplate + $45K Merc
K900 and Equus, the flagships, you can't go wrong.
Isn't now Samsung more of a premium over Sony?
Jpn and Kor are bad bloods (WWII)...Kor is catching up fast. Hyundai is the next Toyota.
Side note:
Give me Lambo's flagship, and I'll trade it in for a Condo, an Equus and a female chauffeur...with benefits
That genesis is a beautiful car. I have a 7 Series BMW and I think there are little things like the ride/handling balance that would be superior in the BMW. I've watched a few of the tests on youtube of the 2015 Genesis. On a value basis, it's hard paying the extra $20K for German....next time I'm ready for another car, I'll consider that Genesis. As far as the Lexus, it will probably maintain a higher value after you buy it over the Genesis....so no extra cost, therefore, just pick the one you like better. Another car I would like to drive for comparison in the Chevy SS....doesn't look as beautifu but the features and drive rate very highly.

That's a great suggestion, thank you, I had no idea it existed. I'll check it out but I suspect from the couple of reviews I just looked at the interior quality may not be where I want it to be but with a sticker $10k less than the Genesis and the great reviews on its power/handling it may be a contender.
I'll test drive later this week and update.
Any other sleepers out there?
p.s. I mentioned the Infiniti's in my OP, interior is dated on the Q70 and no ventilated seats on the Q50. Too hot in Texas to go without!
i'm right with you the price and the brand does not compute LOL
