After owning over 35 cars during my years.... And all of them over 100,000, a bunch over 150,000 and even a bunch more over 250,000 I have NEVER changed my oil during a time period..Only changed it per mileage..... And have NEVER had oil leaks, engine problems from oil or anything else related to changing the oil....
And I have NEVER used synthetic in any of my cars.... I also use whatever oil I choose and depending on what my use was the viscosity also..... I have NEVER stuck with the same viscosity in all my cars...Some I used 10w30, some 5w20 and some 20w50.....
I also do not stick strictly to the same filter either....
Agree, 3k-5k interval is overkill and a waste of money. Jiffy Lube has done a great job brainwashing the masses. Not surprisingly, they are owned by Shell Oil.
With my new Honda Civic, I change 10k-15k intervals with Mobil 1 synthetic and have never had a problem, plus get 50+ mpg on the freeway. With my previous SUV, I have gone as high as 20k and never had a problem either.
Hey....not everyone cares to use those synthetic oils. I use Castrol GTX 5W-30 Recommended for my Town Car. 3000 miles, before an Oil change.
