My dream, frivolous car is a '59 Caddy, preferably convertible. Ever since I was a kid and those were "new", I thought they were so"cool" and so 1950's-'60s. Wife says it wouldn't fit in the garage. As it is , I have a '05 deVille there instead.
I would go with a right hand drive euro import not to expensive even after import costs.
If the whole experience wasn't going to be as unique as a right hand drive then the only option seems to be unique looking or exotic and unique looking is the only one in your price range and you can get a Polaris Slingshot for 20K. If it were me this is what I would have imported right hand drive of course.
Haha, some of these choices I think the HOA would amend their bylaws to prohibit me from parking some of these things, like the Unimog LOL.
I have thought about the Ariel Atom, it's really in the same category as the AC Cobra to me, as would be a V8 Miata. In my price range, the only for sale ones would be the older 2.0 engine versions. One of the local guys had one and I've spent some seat time in it, definitely a fun car but when you have to wear a helmet just to go down the street... not very usable in most situations.
The Pantera would probably fit the bill (one of the few "muscle cars" I think that would) but good restored examples are well above $60k last I checked. The GT5 models... forgetaboutit.
I think if the weather is nice I'm going to head to the local Cars and Coffee this month for some ideas.
Plymouth Prowler
Jeep Wrangler
AC Cobra replica (I know this is probably considered by many to be a sports car, but with no top, no safety equipment, it is really just a toy IMO, and not really a viable means of transportation a lot of the time.)
'29 Ford Roadster
Tesla Model S (not sure I can find one in the budget though)
Well, you are all over the place on those choices. IMO, you really haven't found the car YOU want badly enough yet.
The Prowler is a gutless wonder, the Wrangler is off roadie, Cobra kit cars are fun, and a 29 roadster (I assume you mean hot rod, not stock) is for people who are truly hot rodders. (I have a 27 and 29 roadster pickup, but I have been a car builder/hot rodder all my life). As for the Tesla, I know zero about those.
There has to be one car that when you see it in traffic you say to yourself "Wow, I want one of those some day !" That is how I would pick the next one.
Don
Wanna know something funny, outside of the Viper, the Prowler had the most powerful gas engine of the lineup at the time.
