Why on earth would anyone want or need an SUV for this? Why not drive a bigger nice car that handles and drives nice, not to mention brakes better and avoids accidents instead of just plowing into everything and flipping over. Get a car for goodness sake!
I understand what you're saying. We take short road trips frequently (3 hours or so). It's us plus our two small dogs. We'd like the cargo space at the back, and there have been a zillion times when we've been in situations where we've stopped for one reason or another, and my little one likes the break of getting out of her seat and climbing around in the back of the car (parked in a parking lot or acceptable location, of course). So that's why no sedan - we want the enclosed space in the back. I know that probably makes no sense to a lot of people, but it works for our family.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to sit next to my two kids on long trips so I can read to them and such. Most minivans have two captains/bucket seats in the second row, and I'd rather not seat us at the very back. We have a super old minivan already. If we can't make this work, then we'll consider a different seating arrangement or other vehicles. Considered a Mazda5, which is like a car/SUV/minivan mix, but the safety crash test ratings are rather troubling. Still researching right now.
If this happens when you switch from driving a sedan to an SUV, the problem isn't the vehicle.
Exactly, and many people need a truck or SUV for the room and to haul/pull. A Beetle doesn't fit everybody's needs like it does gg.
