Car problem
Someone else posted like this and found in the search wagon and brought me here so I have a question too. While I put my car in drive, I then step on the gas but instead of it just going it is revving up till the gear finally catch's and jerks the car. Then while waiting at a stop it will shift again on its own as if it wasn't pre adgusted in the first place. This is strange. I'm sure someone will know...Thanks for your help! B.

I had a 1971 Plymouth Duster in 1984 with only 35,000 miles that developed the first problem you describe. Mechanic thought it was the tranny. When I put in STP gas treatment in the tank the problem seemed to subside. Weird. My dad forced me to sell it and I did (it was his dad's car).

I'll try it, I hope it's safe to drive anyway..if it decides to wait out longer all of a sudden and some semi is coming...not good!... Thanks I also wondered if it was the fuel filter but if this higher amount of gas is pushed out (it seems) where is it going to not catch w/getting the gears to be in sink...

With a AUTOMATIC Transmission. Smell the trans dip stick to see level and/or Brown color or smells BURNT. May need fluid change and new filter screen (kit). Possible shift linkeage adjustment. Torque converter may made replacing. Also the clutche (disks) maybe slipping and would call for a new rebuilt. A QUALIFIED TRANSMISSION shop should be able to narrow your problem. What make and year is the car & how many miles on it. No one here can even attempt to help you unless you provide more information.
Also if your car is exhibiting this symptom, don't you think you should take it to a shop?

I agree with Chick on this one, Blip.
It could be something very simple like low transmission fluid (simple leak) all the way up to needing a complete transmission overhaul. Either way, driving it will more than likely only make it worse . . . read: more expensive.
The Make, Model and Mileage would be helpful.
Good Luck!
