Maybe it would not need to be if the cars were driving themselves. Workers may not have to fear a sleeping texter doing 85 through a work zone any longer.

Around here, the cars would try to go pretty fast, as our state route signs look a lot like speed signs:

Of course, some of the major routes are pretty low numbers, too:

lol!

I can't imagine it's hard to install a front camera that can read SPEED LIMIT 55. Black on white background. Would be no different than license plate reader.
I think it should be a optional thing. If someone wants it implemented on their kids car or their own fine

Although I wonder if the tech really needs a camera to read road signs. My GPS is already programmed with speed limits. The car could know the speed limit through it's own GPS.
Which are wrong half the time...

Since it can be deactivated with a simple button on the steering wheel, those of us who don't like the idea have nothing to worry about.

It would be a good tool for teaching a teen to drive, or for driving in an new place, but I highly doubt I'd use it.

Ford's "My Key" feature was a good idea, this idea not so much. If they implement it in their cars, I can only hope it can be overridden.

Good. Someone needs to bring sanity to our out-of-control car culture. 'Bout time

As a car fan, I disagree. How would you like it if your passion and hobby was legislated out of existence just because someone else didn't like or understand it?

Sometimes hitting the gas hard is the thing that will save your life... I don't want any car that will prevent that.

Im a big car fan. I worked for a car magazine in the late 70's and early 80's. But, I stand by what I said, car culture has spun out of control. It's not binary. You can have responsibility and nice cars.
