I have a Chrysler 300M, year 2000 and the ignition is giving me troubles. I went out to start it one day and the ignition was stuck and stuck hard, not going forward or back. Now get this, when i tried it again it was warmer out with the sun shining and it worked just fine but as soon as the temps dropped, stuck again. Anyone have thoughts on this? Oh let me say this, my son had been driving it for work and im talking about a kid that breaks everything. He dogged it to the point i said thats it no more. The ignition gave me no troubles prior to him driving it. Hes a strong kid and doesnt use that strength appropiately. Could he have done something trying to force the ignition?

Could be that the switch is simply worn out. I guess he could of forced the key. I would break a few of his fingers. That will get him to stop twisting the key so hard. Or you could replace the switch. I've replaced ignition switches in most of my work vehicles. Thry usually get started and shut off at least 4x a day every day. If I'm running service it may be as much as 14-18x a day

You sure he isn't just parking with the wheel cranked?

It sounds like you're hitting the old steering wheel lock.. You have the wheels cranked just right, and it hits one of the pins that prevents the wheel from being turned while the ignition is off.

I can't remember the last vehicle I had that was like that.. I know my current vehicle doesn't.. Can't remember if the S-10 did or not.. The old 80's escorts I had certainly did.. If I was parked on a hill with the wheel turned just right.. You basically had to tug on the steering wheel to release the pressure on the ignition to get the key to turn.
