True for my city. Large Olds, Caddys, Chevys, Fords, and Lincolns are still around. Most appear to actually be in good shape though.

Kind of surprising to see most lists showing the smaller sedans and SUVs, compacts to be going extinct but then again the wreckers make it an easy decision for most people. A little bit of cash or gone for free, off of your driveway.

I just moved to Florida but I was born and raised I Michigan I go home now and then. I see what people are driveing there. Even in Florida you see many older cars because of the seniors living here. I'm a car person I worked for Chrysler building pickup trucks at their Warren Truck Assembly plant in Warren Michigan. Also worked at the K car assembly plant in Newark Delaware . When I worked at the truck plant we made the Ramcharger, Trailduster, Ram 150, 250, 350, Dully, Little Red Truck Express. And the Warlock., and the Powerwagon. Also trucks for the military and the railroad so they can ride the rails.

20 years ago that was the case, which is why it's more common to see a 1995 Intrepid than a 1995 Accord around here.

But if I were to wander through the parking lot at work I would guess that probably 1/3 of the later-model cars are import brands. Which may be lower than the country at large, but we're 20+ miles from an import car dealership of any kind and 50+ from any variety of import dealerships.

For some odd reason I still see a lot of 1988-97 Mercury Grand Marquis's on the road.

North-central Iowa rural tier of counties by Mason City region was about 90% US Brand vehicles during my travels there earlier this year. That is a rough estimate.

I also don't see a whole lot of pre-1994 Ford Ranger style Mazda pickups around either.

I am having increasing difficulty finding the <700 imported VW Passat 50 mpg B4V TDI wagons with 25 gal tanks. (1250mile range) 1996 and 1997 model yrs.

Those I find have 500k miles on them, or they have been totaled (I have had 4 of them hit by SUV cell phone talkers)

I have had to MAKE my last 2 replacement cars from VR6's and drop the TDI stuff in from a donor. That is a PITA.

Wonder how 'cash for clunkers' reduced the ranks of 1990 era used cars

I'll add that I never see the early-mid 1990s GM minivans around anymore. Never. Olds Silhouette, Chevy Lumina APV, Pontiac Transport.

Ha, those were the ones with the front ends that looked like a vacuum cleaner. I saw one a few months ago, but not a common sight.
