it drives me nuts. anything you can do to stop that grating sound when the wipers are on? Perhaps buy new wipers I suppose. But outside of that sound they work fine.
If they're scraping they're worn out, if they're worn out and the rubber comes off they'll scratch the glass windshield, if they scratch the glass windshield you'll have to replace the windshield.

Clean off the edges of the blades and treat the windshield with Rain-X to minimize friction. It'll smooth things out unless the blades themselves are worn out and need to be replaced. If that's the case, consider "frameless" blades like Bosch Icon or Rain-X Latitude. They're more expensive but they work better and last longer.

I have new Bosch frameless ones - the fit is fine (curved against the windshield), but they still chatter.
I may try to wipe the windshield down with vinegar.
